10 Things In Your Closet You Don't Need

So how often do we hang on to things in our closet that should have been purged many moons ago, but you just haven’t taken the time to do it.  Well ladies I’m here to help you let it all go, no more letting things take up space in your closet and not serving a purpose anymore, which is why I came up with 10 things you no longer need.  Now with that being said please by all means if you don’t feel the need to remove something then you have every right to keep what you want, these are just some suggestions that I believe you can do without, but no pressure.  So let’s get right to the nitty gritty of things with this list shall we.

SENTIMENTAL THINGS

Now when I say sentimental I’m referring to that bridesmaid dress from three years ago or maybe that ballgown or any special event that you wore that dress to that will never be worn again.  If you really and I mean REALLY can’t part with it, my suggestion would be to put it in a box as a keepsake away from your everyday clothing and store it so you can go to it when you want to reminisce.  But think about parting ways with these dresses by donating them, there’s always someone less fortunate than you that may not be able to afford a new dress for a special occasion like a prom that would love to have that dress that’s been sitting in your closet.

RUSTY JEWELRY

If you have any old necklaces or costume jewelry still laying around that has rusted and started turning colors which tends to happen get rid of it, no purpose is being served with you holding on to them.   When it comes to other accessories you own like sunglasses(which I’m obsessed with), statement pieces and handbags if any of these items are outdated or you just have an abundance of them but not being worn, toss it if they look less than wearable anymore or donate what’s good to someone you know that would love to have it.

CLOTHES THAT DON’T FIT

This is always something I stress to my clients, don’t hold on to items with the hope of being able to fit back into them one day.  There’s nothing wrong with wanting to feel good about yourself and work on changes that you want to make, but it’s important to wear clothes for the body that you have right now and still look and feel good!

OLD UNDERGARMENTS

I think it’s safe to say that we as women love pretty underwear and matching bras, it’s just something about having on cute undergarments under our clothes that makes you feel good.  As cute as those undergarments are you need to throw them out once they start to lose their shape and fade from being washed over time.  Why keep holding on to them because more than not you aren’t wearing them anyway.  So make sure to toss those old undies and bras and be sure to replace them every six to eight months, which is generally the timeframe you will start to notice the ones that will need to be replaced.

CLOTHES THAT STILL HAVE TAGS ON THEM

I already know what you’re going to say, “but I paid a lot of money for this” and yet it’s still hanging in your closet collecting dust.  Get over what you spent and think about why you bought it in the first place because clearly it didn’t serve an important wardrobe need, but more of a want.  There are so many luxury consignment shops online that are trustworthy you wouldn’t have any problems making some money off of those clothes to make room for what you need to have.

WORN OUT STAPLES

I’m big on great staple pieces because they are the foundation of your wardrobe to build around other pieces you add to them.  Staples usually get worn pretty frequently because they can be mixed and matched with many different looks when done right, but at some point you will need to replace them.  Generally if you have quality staples that you have spent money on they will last a long time, so you won’t be replacing them often.  When holes start to appear and collars are looking stretched out it’s time to get to shopping for new ones.

OUTDATED TRENDY LOOKS

If you’re still rocking those flower pants or wearing things that are sparkly and shiny like a disco ball, please step away from these outdated trends and find the nearest trash can.  Some things just aren’t meant to be worn anymore, they’ve had their time so let them go.

OLD T-SHIRTS

If we're honest with ourselves we tend to hold onto t-shirts much longer than we should because we love the way they feel and how easy they are to throw on with an outfit.  But doing this over and over again will make it look unflattering on you over time.  T-shirts tend to look worn out after so long and who wants to walk around like that, so replace them.

OUTDATED DENIM

There’s no reason anyone should be walking around with Frankie B. jeans(If you’re old enough to remember those) or jeans with diamond studs and flashing embellishments on the pockets, this is just a no no.  Jeans have evolved so much over the last decade with some many options for all body types to choose from that there is no reason anyone can’t find a pair that looks great and fits you in all the right places.

DAMAGED CLOTHING

My first question would be why do you still have damage clothes in your closet?  Anything that has rips or stains on them that can no longer be worn, even if it was one of your favorites will need to be tossed and that includes socks with holes in them.  Just because it may not be noticeable to someone else doesn’t mean you should wear it, there’s always something you will like that can replace something no longer wearable.

Hope you enjoyed this list and that it was helpful, comment if there are some things on the list you need to get rid of or could add to!
